Moments of Freedom visits Scots Syrian Roses
We had a wonderful day yesterday in North Ayrshire with the New Scots women of Scots Syrian Roses.
The women of Moments of Freedom had been invited down to meet with the group to share their experiences and learning. The women met in Centre 81 and took a mini bus down to Kilwinning for the lunch.
The women from Scots Syrian Roses had prepared a fantastic lunch for us, complete with regional Syrian desserts that the women said they hadn’t eaten for years. It was extremely special.
We spent time chatting, getting to know each other better, laughing and sharing our learning from developing Moments of Freedom over the last 6 years. The women chatted about family, life in Scotland, their groups and of course food!
Our lovely hosts then brought out the speakers and we spent an hour dancing together and learning Syrian dances.
“Today felt like home – it was nice to be together, have food from home, listen to our music and do Syrian dancing together”.
Both groups have now exchanged numbers to create a bigger Whatsapp group. This will allow them to share more resources and also meet up when the women from North Ayrshire come up to Glasgow.
It was a beautiful day full of fun with one of the women saying “today really was our ‘moment of freedom’ – I felt so happy”.
We can’t wait to see how this partnership will develop and the women from Moments of Freedom are looking forward to welcoming Scots Syrian Roses back to Clydebank soon.
