At Outside the Box we work with many different groups that want to make a difference in their communities. One group we work with is older people. We know that lots of great work is happening across Scotland to make life better for older people but we know that more can be done to make older people less isolated, more involved in their communities and, ultimately, happier.

We are bringing together people who want to see more opportunities for older people to participate in the issues and activities that interest them. We are hosting three We’re Here Too events with this aim. The events will take place in East Renfrewshire, Falkirk and Inverness and will centre around three key themes.

The first is building stronger links between people living in care homes, and other supported settings, and people in their local communities. We are also looking at the importance of older people keeping active. To show just how fun this can be, and how no limitations should be placed on older people, we will be having a belly dancing demonstration as this is a brilliant way to have fun, stay fit, and improve your balance.

Thirdly, we will be focusing on Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) communities and how to ensure that BME older people’s needs are looked at too. We know that older people in Scotland come from a variety of cultural backgrounds, countries and religions and it is important that these different perspectives are heard. We will be having discussions around these three topics along with hearing speakers share their ideas and experiences.

Come along from 10am – 3.30pm. Tea, coffee, cake and lunch will be provided.
