Luis, the son of our Communications and Resource Worker Christine, was kind enough to write us a blog about his experience at a kurling taster session which was held as a follow up to our café session with our Flourishing Borders project.
My name is Luis and I am 10 years old. I went along to the Kurling taster session at Netherurd village hall on Thursday 16th March and this is my story of the evening.
When we arrived Ian set up the Kurling stuff and Peggy got the teas & coffees organised for everyone arriving. Margaret and I had a sneaky practice whilst we were waiting!
When everyone had arrived we split into 2 teams. Team 1 was Margaret, Peggy, Willie & Mary. Team 2 was me, Christine, Lindsey and Ian. The other Ian was the referee and boy was he strict when it came to the centre circle, it had to be completely covered or he didn’t award full points!
Team 1 went 1st and oh my goodness they were super competitive from the first shot after 2 ends Peggy had a slight advantage. We were up next and Lindsey took a commanding lead after our first 2 ends. Whilst we were playing team 1 were being just as competitive playing dominoes!
Team 1 were up again and this time Margaret reached her potential and finished round 2 with a commanding lead whilst we had our game of dominoes, which ended with us all unable to play! Our team was up again Lindsey had another great round but this time I found my range and started to close the gap. Could I catch her going into the final round?
Team 1’s final round started, Willie made a late surge but a fantastic shot from Peggy saw her score 4 points and take back the lead from Margaret and finish victorious in team 1. We were up again and I pulled it out of the bag finishing the winner in team 2.
Now it was time to taste all the amazing home baking but in order to do my job properly I obviously had to make sure I tasted everything. It was a tough call as they were all delicious but I had 2 favourites: the cookies and the flapjack. Yum!!
It was my 1st time Kurling and I had a great time, everyone should give it a go it is so much fun!!
