Climate Chat in Moray
We have been very busy over the past few months in Moray with our Climate Chat project. We have been working with communities of interest, focussing on equalities groups, having discussions, hosting community sessions, attending events and creating accessible resources.
Burghead and Cummingston Community Council Community Engagement (Nov 23)
In November we went along to a community engagement in Burghead Community Hall to introduce the project. There were stalls in place to talk about the community Place plan, Community Solar Power with Zero Carbon Moray and a project to make access into the sea easier for all including those in Wheelchairs. We talked about the project and asked people to fill in the survey.
REAP with Richard Lochhead MSP in Keith (Dec 23)
In December we attended an event in the Longmore Hall in Keith with REAP, a local energy advice organisation, Zero Carbon Moray, Climate Chat and Richard Lochhead MSP to talk about Just Transition. This was a lively event with interesting questions from the floor and engagement with our Climate Chat project.
Knitting dish cloths in Burghead (Feb 24)
In February we went along to a Reduce Reuse and Recycle craft event in Burghead with Sharon Findlay. Attendees were crocheting dishcloths rather than using shop bought. We discussed how much longer these last and other ways we can reduce our use of new products such as costume libraries for things like National Book Day. We also discussed recycling, where to do it and why we do it.
Online Learning Event (Feb 24)
We also contributed to an online shared learning event in February. The theme was ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ and we heard from The Huntly Remakery Clothes Swap and Moray Waste Busters spoke of their work and shared their learning.
Rothes Energy Event (March 24)
We have had a busy March so far. We went along to an energy and climate event in Rothes, Moray. In attendance were Moray Climate Action Network, REAP, Zero Carbon Moray and our Climate Chat project. We served cake, conversation and advice to the Rothes Community.
Smarter Larder Workshop in Greenbrae Steading Hopeman (March 24)
This was a great workshop from Lisa Wolff at Bee Home Cottage. She taught the attendees how to make carpet/upholstery cleaner and vinegar infusions for hair or cleaning all without a single chemical, with the ingredients coming from the larder or garden. This is a way to reduce how many plastic bottles we buy with cleaning products in them but also how to use fewer toxic substances to clean our houses.
