Last week the Minister for Social Security, Jeane Freeman, launched the Scottish Government’s draft strategy to tackle social isolation and loneliness. You can access the consultation document here. The document is a great starting point for conversations around how people can best be involved in their communities and get to know other people.

The Scottish Government have planned consultation events across the country so as many people as possible can share their views on the draft. The Scottish Government are especially keen to hear from people who have a lived experience of social isolation or chronic loneliness so please share this information with any people, groups or organisations who you think might be interested in sharing their ideas.

People can register for the events here:
Glasgow
Edinburgh
Dundee
Aviemore
Dumfries
Oban
Inverness
Orkney

If you live in an area that isn’t on this list, but you think would benefit from an event then let the Scottish Government know by emailing AConnectedScotland@gov.scot.

Many of our projects focus on tackling isolation, and it was the main focus of our Scottish Government funded Angus McFlourish project  so it is encouraging that the Scottish Government is focusing on this issue yet again. It will be good to add the insight we have gained through our work to the consultation. We hope that lots of people will go along to the events and make their voices heard. If you, or someone you know has experienced social isolation or loneliness then why not go along?

To respond to the consultation you can visit the citizenspace portal where you can also find a toolkit to help you have your own event if you’d like to run one yourself.

To have your ideas included, make sure you respond by the 30th of April.
