At the end of last year we held three events looking at creating more opportunities for older people. We held the events in East Renfrewshire, Falkirk and Inverness and looked at three key themes:

1. Building stronger links between people living in care homes and other supported settings and people in their local communities

2. Keeping active

3. What works for older people in BME (black and minority ethnic) communities.

The three events went well with a great range of speakers and people in attendance, not to mention the brilliant belly dancing! We have since written up a report from the three events so we capture all the great ideas everyone had at the three events, as well as sharing why we held the three events and why they had the themes they did. To read the report from the three events click here. Be sure to keep an eye on our website as we prepare for our next We’re Here Too events.

“Older people are fed up being consulted. We need to be part of coming up with the ideas and plans in the first place.”

“It was good sharing examples and hearing about innovative ideas that work – not needing lots of money to deliver, sustainable and making a difference for people. We left the event feeling enthusiastic!”

“The question ‘what is your community?’ needs to be answered first, before then asking ‘what will help you engage more with your community’, as everyone’s answer to this first question is different.”
