It was great to be part of the Intergenerational National Network session in Dumfries last week. We had interesting conversations around how town centres work well for everyone including older people. This means thinking about what sorts of shops there are, how easy it is to get about and what encourages people to feel that their local town or village belongs to the people who live there.
We also talked about the intergenerational aspects of rural living – what encourages people across age ranges to enjoy doing things together, both as part of day-to-day life and in a more conscious way. This ties in with a lot of the work we have been doing with our Rural Wisdom project- we’ve been working with school children and older people in Edzell and Eaglesham to develop intergenerational activities that everyone can enjoy. And our Intergenerational Tea Dance in Edzell has been a big hit too!
It was also great to hear about the work of The Stove Network and their project to reclaim their town centre. It’s an inspiring and innovative project and we look forward to watching it develop! You can keep up to date on the Midsteeple Quarter project on their website.
