We are very happy to be involved with the ‘Conversation Cafes’ organised by NHS Grampian’s Wellbeing Network. One of our Community Development Advisors, Caroline Peter, has connected with these as part of our families work in which we hope to create opportunities for grandparents to connect with each other and offer peer support; the cafes are primarily about offering something regular for those who are isolated for whatever reason to have some company
Caroline attended the second of the Conversation Cafes last week in Stonehaven, working alongside the Wellbeing Network and Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action. All were delighted to welcome the 40-50 people who came along. A representative from Arthritis Care was there to answer any questions as well as a local person who often attends the Edenholme care home offering pet therapy. Those present enjoyed a lovely tea or coffee and numerous refills to wash down the scones and pancakes. A group of residents from another care home in the town came along to meet up with old friends resident in Edenholme for a great blether and the local wellbeing walking group came in after their walk and the daycare centre bussed along some of their members.
The next cafe will take place on Friday 8th September, again at Edenholme Carehome. Anyone is most welcome to come along anytime between 10.30 – 12noon. If you would like to know anything more about these, please contact Caroline at caroline@otbds.org.uk / 07841015845
