Theresa May has announced that there will be a general election on the 8th of June. For people who didn’t register in time for May’s council elections there is good news: you still have plenty of time to register for the General election!
We already shared information on who could vote in the council elections, but the rules are different for General elections. If you are 18 years old, or over, and a British citizen, you will be able to vote as long as you are registered. If you would like more information the electoral commission have detailed information on who can vote. It’s important to note that, unlike the local council elections, Europeans living in the UK are unable to vote in this election.
Click here to register, the whole process should only take five minutes and you can do it all online. The deadline is the 22nd of May.
Do you have any questions about voting? Our helpful resources might be able to help, like this one for care providers or this one where we provide information on how to find out who your MSP is.
The Electoral Commission also have lots of really clear advice for voting in the local elections.
