This week BBC Radio Scotland is running a week long campaign during their morning show where Kaye Adam and Stephen Jadine will discuss issues around isolation and loneliness in Scotland. Today’s programme focused on age and how this can be a contributing factor to isolation.
From the conversations we have had with older people we know how much of a factor age can be for someone feeling isolated. From physical problems meaning it is more difficult to get out to see your friends to experiencing the loss of a close partner or friend, there are many ways older people can become isolated and lonely. This is why, at the end of last year, we held three events looking at creating more opportunities for older people to do the things they love.
We have now launched the report from our We’re Here Too events last year. In the report you can read what older people told us they need to experience good mental and physical wellbeing and what they would like more of to stay well. We also have plenty of examples of amazing work being done across Scotland to make life better for older people to alleviate isolation and loneliness. You can read the report by clicking here.
