Outside the Box is developing Rural Wisdom – a project that will look at what works for older people in rural communities across the UK.  This is in partnership with Volunteering Matters Cymru and the National Development Team for Inclusion.  The current work is funded by the Big Lottery Fund though their Accelerating Ideas programme and we are planning to apply for a bigger project that will run over several years.

As part of this project, we – alongside Perth and Kinross Association Voluntary Services – facilitated a discussion around what a community that works well for older people looks and feels like. The key themes which arose through the conversations were

  • transport
  • shopping
  • housing and support
  • sharing attitudes & values
