In April last year, working with Willie Miller Urban Design, we supported New Cumnock Development Trust to hold a consultation over four days asking local people what they would like to see for the future of New Cumnock.

The overall aim of the project was about making the best use for New Cumnock of community benefit money from the proposed windfarms for the area.

The Masterplan was launched at an event held in Campbell Hall at Glens Park, home of the Afton Glen football team, by Jeane Freeman MSP.  In the Foreword for the Master Plan Ms Freeman is clear that:

“The people best placed to know what New Cumnock’s priorities are, are the people who live there and have shown their enthusiasm for engaging in the consultation process and making their voices heard”

The Masterplan draws on all the work that has been done before, particularly the New Cumnock Community Action Plan.  It is full of people’s ideas and suggestions for improvements. It covers three key areas for New Cumnock

  • The Town centre regeneration masterplan – including community facilities and the local economy
  • Social action plan – with ideas, projects and events for the community
  • The Children’s Masterplan – suggestions and ideas from children from New Cumnock Primary School including the Children’s High Street

What happens now?

The Masterplan offers a way forward. It is supported by New Cumnock Development Trust, both volunteers and staff , working with partner organisations and with local community groups and local people to deliver it.
