New Outside the Box website

Welcome to our website

We’re delighted to share our new Outside the Box website for the world to see!

For the Outside the Box team and family, our website is our home (and office) on the internet. And it’s a space you’re always welcome in – whether you want to browse our blog, download some resources or discover different ideas.

We last updated our website in 2015, so it was time for some de-cluttering. To make it more accessible and welcoming for everyone, we’ve been working with Jenn from Third Sector Lab. She has created a brilliant new look and feel for www.otbds.org.

We hope you enjoy it!

What can you do with our website?

You can see the inside of Outside the Box; what values underpin our work? Who makes up our small team and our dedicated board?

You can explore the projects we are working on to help build equal, caring communities where everyone is included and can have a say.

You can find out about the services that we offer and how we might be able to support your work in communities.

You can explore our library of resources – and find what you need with our new, simpler filtering function. Want to find resources you can use for digital inclusion, age-inclusive community, or rights and equality? Just click the options you’re interested in to narrow down the search.

You can keep up to date with our blog and of course, you can always get in touch!

Who can use our website?

We are a community development support organisation and work with a wide range of different people. We have aimed to make our website as accessible as possible to anyone who wishes to use it, and have done so by choosing:

  • Strong colour contrasts
  • Concise text with clear headings
  • A consistent and easy-to-read font
  • The ability to enlarge text
  • A simple menu system with large buttons
  • Screen-reader friendly content and images

We are proud to have signed up to the Technology Charter for People Living with Dementia, and we hope that we have created a website which is engaging and intuitive for people with or without dementia to use.

We’d love to hear what you think of our website. We know it’s hard to get everything right first time so we’ll be on the lookout for any teething problems or things we’ve overlooked. If you find any aspect of the site difficult to use for any reason, please do let us know.

Testing our website accessibility

It’s important everyone has a good experience using it, and can access all the information. We’ve taken steps to make the website accessible and tested it with some people already. But we know people access websites in many different ways.

If you would like to help test our website, all you need to do is explore the site and answer a few questions.

We would love to hear from people who access websites using different technology, or often experience barriers online. It’s important we learn about any access issues on our website – so we can fix them!

Questions for people testing the website

  1. How do you access the website?
    • Which device (mobile, computer):
    • Which internet browser (Google chrome, internet explorer, etc.):
    • Do you use any assistive technology?
  2. Explore the website a little. What parts of the website do you navigate to first?
  3. Imagine you’re…
    • Looking for our blog about the ‘National Care Service’ consultation
    • Looking for a project about New Scots community connections
    • Wanting to find our resource on ‘Setting up a digital buddies project’

Can you find all this information? Did you experience any issues or barriers? We want to hear about anything you find difficult to use.

  1. Are there any other access issues you’ve noticed?
