We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a grant from the Children, Young People and Families Early Intervention and Adult Learning and Empowering Communities Fund.  The aim of the Peer Support for Parents project, is to increase awareness of the needs of families where a parent has poor mental health.

We also want to develop ways for families to be able to make more use of peer support and draw on the strengths within families and communities.

Parents have told us about the impact and difference peer support makes to their lives and to their children. These are some of the things they have said

“It’s about sharing and learning from people like you.”

“Peer support works because it’s just a group of friends, sometimes they help you with things and sometimes you help them.”

“We support each other, if one of us is having a difficult time, we help out. I never thought I would be helping other people, but I can and do, and funnily enough that helps me feel good too.”

Work will start in April 2017, over the next few months will be thinking and planning how best to work with parents, families and communities. In the meantime, if you would like to be part of the project we would love to hear from you. You can get in touch by emailing louise@otbds.org.
